Collage

Look what I came across at a grocery store close to Sofienbergparken, a picture collage! Pretty cool for a photography fanatic like me! The text in the photo, almost in the centre of if says:

"Why photos here, you may wonder? At Kiwi (the grocery store) of all places. But this isn't just Kiwi. This is your and mine local grocery store. And, if I had the opportunity to write something that everybody could see - then I would have written this: Smile to your neighbor. This is our street. And it is what we make of it. Let us make this little corner of the world the best world to live in."

Åpent Bakeri

If you fancy pizza for dinner you should try this bakery. Yes, bakery. When the baker goes home, the pizza maker comes out, ready to make some of the best pizzas in Oslo. Soon, I'll share a photo my choice of pizza for the day. PS: If you're only after lunch they have a very good müsli bun! Check out Åpent Bakeri for a bakery near you!

Ventus

I have spent my Sunday afternoon going for a drive, to the peninsula Bygdøy. We were meaning to go for a walk around the area Huk, a very popular spot to sun bath in summer, but there was so much ventus we only walked around for 15 minutes or so. The two kiters you can see in the fjord didn't seem to mind it though. A very beautiful spot, very weathered, can't wait to go back when the weather is a little warmer..

Pebbles

After the development of Tjuvholmen at Aker Brygge and the opening of Astrup Fearnley Museet, Oslo's citizens have now got themselves a city beach. Right on the very edge of the islet the constructors have brought in sand and opened up for the fjord to come all the way up to the museum. Here are two girls enjoying the good weather, pebbles and spring time!

Linjer

Trikkelinjer (tram lines) at Rådhusplassen. Remember my post for April's theme day, pedestrians crossing? Today's photo is taken from the same spot, just facing the other direction. In the background you can see the City Hall.

Man on stilts

In one of the channels at Aker Brygge there is a statue of a man on stilts. The following text is taken from a webpage where a woman is sharing her interpretation of the statue:

The statue itself is not particularly original, but it is the location in the water and the surroundings that makes this a place to stop. The man gazes through the channel, towards the inner Oslofjord. There is where he wants to be! He wants to be out, in freedom, away from the hustle of the city - that's what counts! He is leaning forward, balancing on stilts, heading out to the sea. This man is simply cool, because he is balancing between the stable and traditional (Aker Brygge and the safe ground) and the new and unpredictable (Tjuvholmen and the sea). (ref.)

Hundreåringen

Oslo Nye Teater is setting up a musical performance this autumn as a tribute to the sports club. Lekter'n

A popular beer garden and restaurant in Oslo, Lekter'n, a pontoon on Aker Brygge. It opened in March and will stay open and attract young adults and tourists all through the summer season. If you go there, be aware of all the sea gulls flying over you head, I once got shat at!

Orange

A couple in bright orange, matching jackets in front of the City Hall. For some reason I really like the colors in this photo I like the contrast between the orange, black and red bricks.

Oslofjorden

Beautiful winter light over the Oslo Fjord at dusk. The water looks very cold, but I can tell you that Oslofjorden is the fjord with the highest average temperature i Norway, with 7.5 degrees. February is coldest month, minus 1.3 degrees, whilst in July it is normally around 17.2. Now that's cold!

Mix

In front of the fortress Akershus Festning there is a mix of new and old. Part of the old fortress wall on the right and new buildings on the left. Not far from this place is the Café Skansen, a yellow café with a lovely terrace. I have never been there, but hopefully I will go during the summer. Turning around, this is the view from the fortress garden towards Aker Brygge!

Waiting for summer

Although almost all snow is melted, the grass is not yet green and leaves have not yet sprung. The sun have started to warm the world up a little, but it's still a little too cold to sit and relax for too long outside. I walked past this bench the other day and I thought it looked so lonely and abandoned. I think it look like it's waiting for summer and for people to come and sit down on it, run around and play in the grass next to it.

THE THIEF

On Tjuvholmen, on the far edge of Aker Brygge is the new design hotel THE THIEF. Tjuvholmen used to be an area home to criminals and shady dealings, but have evolved into a power centre for contemporary art and good city living at the water's edge. This hotel is full of design gems, hand picked either by the hotel's art curator Sune Nordgren and hung on the hotel room walls, or by the interior designer Wille Våge. Until I have saved up the money to stay for a night you have to settle for this exterior photo!

Complementary Colours

Ever since design class in high school I have been fascinated by complementary colours. I was once taught that the complementary colours to the three basic colors red, blue and yellow were green, orange and purple. But according to my online oracle, Wikipedia, it seems that people are disagreeing about this. Or to put it in another way, it all depends on what colour model you're talking about. Anyways, here is a very colourful wall at Stortinget subway station.

Pedestrians crossing: Theme Day

Straight through Rådhusplassen at Aker Brygge (Pipervika) the tram line goes and straight across the tram line the pedestrians go. No pedestrian crossing, no traffic lights. Be sure to look left - right - left!
