Boys Play

Boys playing football at a field in the middle of the city. For some reason it made me think of Paris, as I  always seem to spot young guys play football or do some sort of sports there. Last time I was there I watched boys play hockey on roller skates in Parc de la Villette.

Naturist

On a warm, beautiful summer day, take a trip to Bygdøy. The peninsula offers beaches and paths to walk. The most know beach is Huk, at Hukodden. If you are a naturist, adventurous or just curious, there is a naturist beach right next to it.. For my earlier post about Bygdøy, check out Ventus and Winter light.

Life is fantastic

LIFE IS FANTASTIC!! I have finally, FINALLY, handed in my master thesis! Now, I can get my life back, have some time off and hopefully get this blog up and running again. Today's photo, taken a while back (with this post in mind) at Jernbanetorget. Remember old post, of Oslo Sentralstasjon?

Kardemomme by

There are a few areas in Oslo with old wooden houses. Vålerenga is one, Fredensborg is another. This street and these houses made me think of Kardemomme by in Kristiansand Zoo. For those of you who are not familiar with Kardemomme by, check out Cardamom Town.

Something sweet and cold

Something sweet and cold for a warm summer night. I came across this little ice cream caravan in front of the Astrup Fearnley museum at Tjuvholmen.

This photo is taken some weeks ago, so the park must be a lot greener today than then. This is Torshov kirkepark, surrounded by colorful houses.

Munch 150 år

Remember my post, The Scream? Little did I know about the upcoming Munch Anniversary Exhibition "Munch 150". In addition to one big exhibition spread over two museums (The National Gallery and Munch Museum), there are lots of other events and exhibitions all over Norway. Here from Aker Brygge and more art in the open sphere.

The peacock

This is something I have been thinking of taking a photo of for a long time. Many years now I have walked past it on my way to and home from uni. I call it the peacock, and it is the fountain at the little place in front of the entrance to the train and subway station Nationaltheatret.

I feel fresh!

Today I have managed to pop out the office to enjoy a nice walk in the forest (yes, there are forests here in Oslo). I feel fresh! By the way, I can't believe I came across this small stream and waterfall. What a beautiful and serene spot! The path I walked is in the north east of the city, in Lillomarka.

Vår Frelsers gravlund

Along Ullevålsveien towards St. Hanshaugen you can stroll through the cemetery Vår Frelsers gravlund. Here from a very sunny morning a few days ago. Judging by today's grey and rainy weather, it feels like its a lifetime ago I took this photo..

Street art

In many places around Oslo you can spot some beautiful street art. Gamlebyen have just been appointed the new place for it, just check out today's news article, Gatekunstbydelen. Today's photo from a street close to St. Hanshaugen however, shows a bit more modest street art compared to the art in Gamlebyen.

Hot summer in the city

Today have been an absolute perfect summer day! Just too bad I've been stuck in the library writing a master thesis all day... Luckily for me our apartment is facing west so I got to enjoy the sun from the afternoon until it set. What a beautiful view!

Nasjonaldagen: Theme Day

Today is Norway's nasjonaldag (Constitution Day), AND it is one of CDP's National day theme days! Yeay! For those of you who have followed me for a while know I'm not originally from Oslo, I'm from Nedre Eiker, and that's where I am spending the National day this year. Since I'm not in Oslo today, I won't be able to take a photo of the celebrations, so I have posted a photo taken yesterday (by my classmate and photographer, Untiltled Hype Production). Every year, on 16th of May, all kindergarden and school kids are out practicing for the 17th of May parade. Here from the outside the french school in Oslo.

Drømmevogna

I'm dreaming. Of summer holiday. Of being done with my master thesis. If I had a caravan like this, I would just pack up and drive away for a weekend or two. Only 3 more weeks now.

Kom mai, du skjønne milde!

Finally, the trees are in bloom! I love it! This white beauty was spotted in the roundabout at St. Olavs Plass.

Hallén

In the middle of Grünerløkka is the old Halléngården. The old clothing shop from 1880 is in disrepair after being empty for the last ten years. The city's antiquarian has had enough: Hallén have to be renovated!

Akershus Festning

I think I have mentioned Akershus Festning a few times. Once I posted a photo of the view from the fortress (here). Today's photo is taken at Aker Brygge, at sunset. Check out this photo of Pipervika. Almost the same picture, a whole different season..

Gulgrønn

I like it when housing associations and owners dare to paint the apartment buildings in bright, happy colors! Today's photo is taken at Torshov. See also another bright colored building here.

Empty

Ever since I started blogging again in January I have been fairly good at posting a daily photo, however, I expect that there will be a few days missing (like the other day) the next weeks coming up. I am in the final stages of my master thesis, and every night when I get home my head feels as empty as this container, that I walked past the other day. I'll try my best, but consider this as an excuse and explanation..

Byutvikling

I have already posted a few photos of the city's ongoing development (here and here). You might be sick and tired of it by now, but I thought this view were pretty cool. In front is the new Astrup Fearnley museet, in the background the very expensive apartments at Tjuvholmen and Aker Brygge.

Multiinstrumentalisten

Last night, my brother-in-law the multi-instrumentalist Runar Granheim held a concert at Buckleys blues pub, joined by Tuva from Tuva & And The Far Out Orchestra. His first album will be released this fall, and yesterday he played a collection of his songs for us. Playing guitar, piano, accordion, ukulele (and at least a few more instruments) he sings songs about life, friendship and daydreams. It was a very enjoyable evening, with friends and beautiful songs!

Reindeer

So, if you get the chance to go to Åpent Bakeri, try their Reindeer pizza with white sauce, reindeer and pomegranate. Yum! Sorry, guys, no theme day photo today, at least not as long as pizza makers aren't creative artisans..

Collage

Look what I came across at a grocery store close to Sofienbergparken, a picture collage! Pretty cool for a photography fanatic like me! The text in the photo, almost in the centre of if says:

"Why photos here, you may wonder? At Kiwi (the grocery store) of all places. But this isn't just Kiwi. This is your and mine local grocery store. And, if I had the opportunity to write something that everybody could see - then I would have written this: Smile to your neighbor. This is our street. And it is what we make of it. Let us make this little corner of the world the best world to live in."
By Caroline Roka.

Åpent Bakeri

If you fancy pizza for dinner you should try this bakery. Yes, bakery. When the baker goes home, the pizza maker comes out, ready to make some of the best pizzas in Oslo. Soon, I'll share a photo my choice of pizza for the day. PS: If you're only after lunch they have a very good müsli bun! Check out Åpent Bakeri for a bakery near you!

Ventus

I have spent my Sunday afternoon going for a drive, to the peninsula Bygdøy. We were meaning to go for a walk around the area Huk, a very popular spot to sun bath in summer, but there was so much ventus we only walked around for 15 minutes or so. The two kiters you can see in the fjord didn't seem to mind it though. A very beautiful spot, very weathered, can't wait to go back when the weather is a little warmer..

Pebbles

After the development of Tjuvholmen at Aker Brygge and the opening of Astrup Fearnley Museet, Oslo's citizens have now got themselves a city beach. Right on the very edge of the islet the constructors have brought in sand and opened up for the fjord to come all the way up to the museum. Here are two girls enjoying the good weather, pebbles and spring time!

Trikkelinjer (tram lines) at Rådhusplassen. Remember my post for April's theme day, pedestrians crossing? Today's photo is taken from the same spot, just facing the other direction. In the background you can see the City Hall.

Astrup Fearnley Museet

Astrup Fearnley Museet, a museum of contemporary art was opened in 1993. The museum doors closed in December 2011 only to reopen, in a new museum building at Tjuvholmen in September 2012. Man on stilts

In one of the channels at Aker Brygge there is a statue of a man on stilts. The following text is taken from a webpage where a woman is sharing her interpretation of the statue:

The statue itself is not particularly original, but it is the location in the water and the surroundings that makes this a place to stop. The man gazes through the channel, towards the inner Oslofjord. There is where he wants to be! He wants to be out, in freedom, away from the hustle of the city - that's what counts! He is leaning forward, balancing on stilts, heading out to the sea. This man is simply cool, because he is balancing between the stable and traditional (Aker Brygge and the safe ground) and the new and unpredictable (Tjuvholmen and the sea). (ref.)

Hundreåringen

Vålerenga Sports Association (VIF), or Oslo's pride, which is what they call themselves are celebrating their centenary this year. Oslo Nye Teater is setting up a musical performance this autumn as a tribute to the sports club. The performance is a centennial chronicle about a fictional family from Vålerenga through four generations. For more information and tickets, check out OsloNye's webpage.

I've just come back from a weekend in Paris and whenever I'm there I find useful and interesting information about ongoing and upcoming exhibitions and events through the commercials in the metro passages. Therefore is today's photo suitable, commercials at Stortinget subway station!

Lekter'n

A popular beer garden and restaurant in Oslo, Lekter'n, a pontoon on Aker Brygge. It opened in March and will stay open and attract young adults and tourists all through the summer season. If you go there, be aware of all the sea gulls flying over you head, I once got shat at!

A couple in bright orange, matching jackets in front of the City Hall. For some reason I really like the colors in this photo I like the contrast between the orange, black and red bricks.

Oslofjorden

Beautiful winter light over the Oslo Fjord at dusk. The water looks very cold, but I can tell you that Oslofjorden is the fjord with the highest average temperature i Norway, with 7.5 degrees. February is coldest month, minus 1.3 degrees, whilst in July it is normally around 17.2. Now that's cold!

PUSHWAGNER

At Tjuvholmen, Pushwagner's gallery is to be found. Remember his exhibition at Gulden Kunstverk? I wonder if his cadillac is parked somewhere close?

Mix

In front of the fortress Akershus Festning there is a mix of new and old. Part of the old fortress wall on the right and new buildings on the left. Not far from this place is the Café Skansen, a yellow café with a lovely terrace. I have never been there, but hopefully I will go during the summer. Turning around, this is the view from the fortress garden towards Aker Brygge!
